To Be Or Not To Be Vegan: My Journey Across America To Make Up My Mind

Non-Fiction, Health, Memoir

LOOKING FOR: Ghostwriter Cover Designer Layout Designer Media Relations

In the Author's Words // In the last ten years many hundreds of thousands of Americans have become vegan--ie: they eat an entirely plant based diet. The reasons for this trend are varied: some are driven by health, some out of concern for the environment and some due to the ethical treatment of animals.

Veganism has much to offer, but for some, the idea of giving up meat, ice cream, cheese, and fish is just too much to bear. Myself, I’ve been a meat-eater all my life. But at the same time, I consider myself an environmentalist, someone who cares about animals, and certainly someone who’s seen the effects of a junk food diet on people, especially those in the lower-income bracket.

I have given much thought to turning vegan. I’m curious if I can do it, and curious why others have done so--and how they’ve fared. To find out, I intend to travel through America and write about the vegans I've met, in a format not unlike Anthony Bordain’s No Reservations, and ultimately decide if I should become a vegan myself.

About the Author // I'm 24 years of age and have a Bachelors degree in economics from Colby College where I played varsity football. A year ago my best friend and I decided that, after graduation, we would walk across America and volunteer to help people as we went. We did it! And it was terrific. We were on the road for seven months and two days. Eery day we had to expect the unexpected. We spent nights in fields, cemeteries, bed bug infested motels, to extravagant houses owned by CEOs and actresses. Many people ask if I'm happy I did it or if I'd do it again. I can confidently say "Yes" to both. Now I'm ready for a new adventure.

Net Minds Assessment // Charismatic young athletic recent college graduate, who was discovered by Forks Over Knives author Gene Stone. Inspired by Richard Paul Evan’s book, The Walk, Nick and his best friend walked across America in 2011. He came home from this walkabout brimming with stories about generosity and diversity in America. In the course of conversation, Stone suggested Nick consider becoming vegan, and offered to introduce him to people around the country that could show him the way. There’s also a reality show format embedded in this book, which we will be shopping prior to his journey.
