Saving The World On A Shoe String: A Guide For Social Startups

Non-Fiction, Business, Entrepreneurship

LOOKING FOR: Layout Designer Media Relations

In the Author's Words // Many of Livingston’s friends find themselves in a dilemma. Should they work a job with high monetary profit, a job that will make the world a better place, or create their own start-up? His answer is “all of the above.” The best start-ups are the ones that seek to solve a compelling problem, and never before in history has the number of issues plaguing our society been as high as it is presently. The opportunity to solve these problems and reap the reward has never been greater.

The book reveals how anyone can start up a company that matters without having to raise millions of dollars or relocate to the Silicon Valley. The author will showcase leading social entrepreneurs at companies such as Method, TOMS Shoes, and Charity Water who have built a massive audience through word-of-mouse and business savvy. The book will also provide ways for non-profits to think more like a lean startup, allowing them to grow faster and make a bigger impact.

About the Author // Livingston is the Marketing and Communications Director for Call2Action, which focuses at the university level on launching social enterprises. He’s a frequent contributor to leading blogs such as Mashable and Entrepreneur.

Net Minds Assessment // Young, media-centric, and motivated, Livingston is a great fit to write a book that combines the ethos of Blake Mycoskie’s Start Something That Matters with the discipline of Eric Ries’ The Lean Startup manifesto. Startup books are a hot category for the new few years. Sara Grace (Who’s Got Your Back) signed on as editor, and the manuscript is over 2/3 done at this point. He’s committed to a speaking tour, and has a speaking agent to leverage publicity to drive engagements.

Ideal Partner Qualities and Styles // The most important characteristic would be the shared belief in what we are trying to do. I have been most fortune thus far in the Netminds process to be surrounded in people who not only care deeply about the book but the movement that the book is inspired by.
